Engineering

Being a member of Palantir's Engineering department is an experience unlike any other. Our home is a true startup: the intersection between efficiency and ingenuity where every voice is heard, every idea is considered, and every member makes a tangible impact.
In an industry rife with sideways momentum and common products, we are in the rare position of crafting software that is truly unique, industry-defining and in some wonderful cases even life-saving. The engineers who build it, by necessity, must have passion, drive and enough creativity to shape the future of analysis.
Software Engineering
If there’s any dogma we hold to, it’s that there should be no dogma about how to build software.
We are not simply developers with specialties in one programming language or another: we are computer scientists, engineers and inventors who happen to write Java. We hire for intelligence over experience, which is why no one will ever give you a spec and tell you to go do it. Instead we take our collective vision, break it down into engineer-sized chunks, hand you a problem to solve and let you go at it. This is true of every problem space we tackle – from exploring huge information sets to presenting complex material in an easily digestible form for end-users.
We spend little time in meetings and formalize process only if there's a good reason to have it. We have agency over our work, but understand that freedom and accountability are separate from attachment. Cross-ownership is a lifestyle, and old code is to be suspect rather than sacrosanct: rewrite it, replace it, and make it better.
