Palantir

Life at Palantir

We love working on hard problems, but there’s more to life than just work. In building the institution that is Palantir, we’ve been very careful to make sure that we’re engineering the company for sustainability in its most important asset: people.

Choose Your Own Adventure

We treat each other like adults. There are no set hours at Palantir. As long as your work is getting done, you’re free to work whatever schedule suits you. Some folks come in during “normal business” hours and head home for dinner with their families; some folks spend 16 hours a day at the office – not because they’re working that whole time, but because the office is a great place to be.

The amenities are not entitlements and definitely not the reason we work here. We’re here to build great software and to change the world. We see the perks as helping us in that mission – by making our lives and time at the office easier, it allows us to focus on what really matters.

Making Life Easy

At Palantir’s offices, we provide a variety of perks to make life easier and make relaxation time as ‘productive’ as work time.

It starts with the food. We serve three hot meals a day,and family, friends, and other guests are always welcome. If you want to head home for dinner but don’t feel like cooking, to-go boxes are waiting to be filled in the kitchen.

For snacking between meals, we can order whatever it is that makes us happy. Love esoteric Japanese candy? Need that craft-brewed Scottish beer? Send an email and these items get stocked in the mini-kitchen near your desk.

Don’t worry: we offer local gym memberships to all employees. Family members can join the same gym at a special low rate. Additionally, we have a small gym and showers on site for a quick workout during the day.

We also provide organized yoga classes, on-site haircuts, a doctor, a chiropractor, massages, laundry, and dry-cleaning.

Making Life Fun

We have dedicated media rooms, allowing people to catch the game, watch a movie, or play video games on a big-screen projector. One of our engineering teams is obsessed with Halo, and you can find four-on-four battles taking place after dinner nightly. We recently had a StarCraft II tournament that consumed an entire weekend.

We’ve got organized games of pickup basketball and ultimate frisbee; we even field a team in the Palo Alto City Basketball League. The bike-obsessed compete to see who can get the best time up Old La Honda Road, a famous cycling peak in the hills just outside of Palo Alto.

On any given night, you can find people watching horribly-campy movies in the Bad Movie Night Club or set up in a conference room playing board games like Settlers of Cataan or Axis & Allies. The Group Therapy Club has a weekly wine-tasting, often mashed up with charcuterie & cheese tastings. There’s a secret coffee-roasters cabal that likes to roast and brew amazing coffee in one of our mini-kitchens.

Making Life Special

Once a year, we head up to Tahoe for a ski weekend, all expenses paid for you and a guest. In the summer, most of the company heads up to the Russian river to spend a day floating down the river in inner tubes.

Peppered throughout the year are excursions to sporting events and cultural events. Here’s a sampling of last year’s events:
